Welcome to the South Carolina Liberty Horse Club

We are a brand new club here in Aiken, SC.  Our goal is to connect people interested in liberty work and help grow the sport.  This club is for those who are brand new to liberty work as well as those who have been at it for a while.  You do not need to own a horse to join.

We are part of the International Liberty Horse Association and therefore you have to join their club in order to join ours.  Click here to learn more about the International Liberty Horse Association.

We have a Facebook Page that you will want to be sure to join.  Click here to go to the page. That is where you can find the latest news and information about our events.

What is Liberty Work?

Liberty work is working with your horse without equipment on where the horse is free.  Often started in a smaller space like a round pen, Liberty work is a wonderful way to increase the bond and the trust your horse has in you.

Who is Liberty Work for?

Liberty Work can be done by anyone with any horse.  It is easier to learn than you think.  It is great for young horses just beginning their education and for older horses to keep them engaged.  If your horse has an injury or should not run, you may want to start on a line to limit their movement.

What is the mission of the club?

Our mission is to help grow the sport of liberty work through educating, empowering and inspiring people.  We offer a place for liberty enthusiast to connect with others, get support and share best practices.

How do I start Liberty Work?

The easiest way to get started is to work with your horse following the Lead Line work.  In this work, you keep your horse on a line with a loop in the line and simply not use your line at all.  Instead you focus on communicating with your horse via your body language and energetic cues.  Another place to start is in a round pen so your horse will be closer to you.

For more help to get started, join the club and attend one of our "Get Started" Events.

How do I join the SC Liberty Horse Club?

We'd love to have you join our club and get connected with other liberty lovers.  We will meet via zoom and in person, we will host educational events and some fun competitions.  We will also support and encourage each other as we increase our bond with our horse.

Please note, since we are are part of the International Liberty Horse Association, you first have to join the International Liberty Horse Association (Click here to do that)
